Finished Fabric

It's finished and washed, I need to press it with the adhesive backing I plan to use. This is the reverse side of the Soumak I really like the braided look of this

I put the fabric over the book, and I've notice that I don't have much of a seam allowance, my mistake, but I think I can get away with what I have with some creative sewing. I'll play with it all this weekend and come up with some solution.

Sunshine / Sunburst Fabric

Whatever I name the fabric it's finished and I really enjoyed weaving it. Since I did as Lynn suggested and warped my inkle, I don't feel the project grief, I'm loving it and the weaving mojo is at it's peak. Mr. Deepend said he will finish my warping board this weekend and I'm going to try to warp for the Structo. I have to do some calculations and consult my book on how to get this done, but it's an adventure I'm looking forward to.

This is the 3x1 pick up I did for the first two sets of beads, the last was a 1x1 pick up. I cut a length of yarn strung the first set of beads, did the pickup in the down position and scooted the beads in place. I took some finagling but I got them in place (this is not a quick throw of a shuttle and some patience is required), shot 4 weft picks and strung on the next set of beads. I repeated the process until I had three rows of beading and run out of patience, This portion of the fabric will be incorporated into a summer tote for this year, I am looking forward to putting that together.

The finished piece is 14" x 10' before washing and drying. I plan to wash in it in the delicate cycle and hang dry. I 've started to worry about the wooden beads in the wash but canl hand wash it, I have to see what I'm comfortable with.

There's a long stretch of plain weave, textured weave, the beading weaving ending with plain weave again. This is the final pic showing all the textures and beading together for comparison. All in all I really enjoyed this project, I surprised by the textured portions prior to washing and like that the beads settled into place off loom and off tension.

Beads Wooden from Joann's Fabrics

I finished the woven fabric and was contemplating what it would become. I like all three of the weaving effects I got from the different yarn and textures the center pic with the most texture is my favorite. I have to wash and dry it to see how it all reacts to each other and if it will soften out.

After finishing a piece either woven or knitted I always have a period of grieving. I know it sounds so damn trivial, but I always feel like I'm done, that it's finished. I take a day or so to plan out what I want to do next. Since I have no clue what I would like the fabric to be I'll let the thought simmer and work on something that was long overdue. I had warped my loom for a log cabin piece a few times, each with disastrous results, but last night my head was clear and I could visualize what I wanted and how it needed to be accomplished.

I warped my RH for a log cabin scarf, I love these colors together the coolness of the turquoise and the warmth of the chocolate brown.

I'm having some trouble keeping the shuttles organized and haven't developed a rhythm with it yet but I'm enjoying the results and watching the pattern come alive.

Woven Fabric Samples

I started weaving this fabric and as I was going along my slubbies got stuck in the heddle holes, I guess I tugged to hard and my yarn decided to teach me a lesson and broke 4 warp ends. I was so annoyed, but I got over myself, cut off what I had and re-slayed, retied and reworked the ends.

This is a close up of the disaster I caused.

I really like the fabric and the way it's turning out. It has a great drape and soft to the touch.

I finished my cotton yarn and began to weave with the slub yarn btw the yarn is Tiney by Berger Du Nord, Belgium. (sorry for the blurry pic) I like the results of it as weft. Once I finish with this portion I plan on weaving the remainder with the Berocco linen. In this fabric I will have experimented with all three as weft and warp and will have a better idea what I would like to accomplish with the rest of the yarn. I'm thinking lightweight scarf or shawl so far.
