Need some Help!

I've had a UTI (urinary tract infection) for two weeks, been through 3 antibiotics and still not gone, I'm so over it already! I'm prone to getting them and if you've had one you know it's not a happy place, if you've never had one, thank God and pray you never do. What a pain in the tuchis, well another place but this is a family friendly blog.

Does anyone have any herbal, home or non prescription remedies to share, my bladder and I would love to hear from you.

Usually a lurker, but hope this helps you.

10 years and counting since I've had one (knock on wood), but I have tried the below recipe, and it does seem to help. My Mom recalls something very similar, if not identical, that worked for her back in the 70's.

In a medium sized pot put:

1 washed potato unpeeled
1 brown onion
1 whole bunch of parsley
1 cup of barley, unhulled if possible

Cover with water and bring to a boil. Simmer for 20 minutes. Cool. Drink ALL of the fluid. It tastes bland. Drink it all anyway.

Best of luck to you - I've been there, I know where you are right now...

I feel so bad for you. Only thing I can think of is cranberry juice, but I'm sure you've heard that a million times. Is your bladder tipped in that it doesn't empty completely? They can do a procedure to go and tie up the bladder if it is and if this is causing your problem.
Hugs and Blessings,
Nancy

Man, I feel for you! I've been there. Two rounds of anti-biotics to kill it for me.

Puddink - Thanks for the receipe, I will try it.
Nancy - I don't have it tipped thank God, but I'm having a scoping on the 11th to investigate, doesn't really sound like fun, but at this point anything is better.
Benita - I'm on my third script and really just tired, all the meds tear up my stomache, then gives me a whole other issue to deal with. But we're getting those and I hope they work.

I have had a terrible time with UTI's but a friend recommended AZO and I take 1-2 every day and have gone for a month without one now-they help right away so give it a try today for immediate relief. The dr says it changes your ph to acidic and therefore not such a hospitable place for bacteria anymore! (The label reads... AZO CRANBERRY with Immune Boosting Probiotic & Vitamin C! )

Goodness me, that is horrible. The only one I know is cranberry juice - gallons and gallons of it.

Yikes! Tell your doctor to culture a sample and see which antibiotics actually work to kill whatever you've got. They've probably already done that, but that's all I can think of. I hope you feel better soon!

World worst thing for a woman is UTI. I had so much pain and bleeding with my first one and had no clue what was going on. Something you don't forget. I know my sister takes something everday but don't know what it is. When I talk to her I will ask and let you know what it is.

Good luck!!!

Cranberry juice, and no carbonated drinks at all, lots of water also. I had hemorrhagic cystitis and this is what really helped me in addition to antibiotics....good luck!!

If antibiotics are not working, plus you have a history of re-current UTIs, has your doctor ever evaluated you for interstitial cystitis? If IC is the underlying problem there is a drug (Elmiron) on the market which can offer relief. I've been where you are and can only offer my deepest sympathy for the pain and exhaustion you're feeling.
