This beautiful baby is Abby, she's the daughter of my friend's in SC. She's all wrapped up in the blankie I made for her, such a cutie.

I had a really busy weekend DH was doing inventory cycle counts on Friday and Saturday so I was left to my own devices. I shopped on Friday evening at the AC Moore store I found, what a great place it was so organized I was almost afraid to touch stuff, but you know I did. I picked up a few items, and there was yarn on SALE!! I also did some serious weaving, knitting and I even got a chance to paint and decoupage this weekend.

I have an FO to show you, I finished the mitered baby blanket for my co-worker just in the nick of time the baby was born on Thursday, so when I went to the hospital on Saturday to see them I took this to her.

For the reverse side, since I didn't do a really good job of joining the pieces together the back was uuuuuggggglllyyyy, I knit a piece to cover that portion of the blocks and bought buttons to hold it all together, and after the washing and drying all the ugly stitches were gone, I was so glad, but next time I know better and will try a pickup technique that I have learn although mitered squares are not really something I was to revisit I didn't enjoy knitting these, maybe if I find a pattern that is knit rs, purl ws instead of this one that had knit, purl and garter stitches, for all the squares I knit I never learned the sequence.

The Reluctant Model

This is my DD, as you can tell she doesn't like to model. But she does love her new sweater, which I'm glad she does because once again I'm not happy with the pattern.

She is, as you can clearly see a XS or S, I choose the S so that if she wanted she'd have some room to layer, well the S body fits me except for the upper arms, mine are too chunky! What am I? L or XL, I measured, did the gauge swatch, pick the correct yarn and needles, but yet, the elusive correct size is evading me. Another little mishap was the collar it was too open a V neck I had to crochet a loop and put in a button, which was a cute addition, and it helped to keep it from rolling down her shoulders. The positive was that it was an easy knit and it went by rather quickly. I want to knit myself one and will use the M size and open the arm holes larger, I will also not open the collar so far down although I like the button idea. If your inclined to try it, here is the pattern.

My LYS has a class on how to properly fit patterns to your or anyone else's body type, I think that's the next class I will sign up for, hopefully I can learn to design my own patterns.

Life's Curve Balls

We're back from the surgical center, and DH has been diagnosed with Colitis, after his Colonoscopy. So he needs to go on a lot of antibiotics and pills to regulate the outbreak, he also has to be on a Low Residue Diet. Poor baby, he's been ill for three weeks and has lost 15 pounds, he was really unhappy with the whole out come, but as I said to him, it could have been much worst, so we do have to thank God that since it's not curable at least it is treatable.

I have been working on some projects and finished DD sweater, I just have to get pics of it all. I also got my purse frames, and that was exciting, they're so cute. I have some woven fabric that has already been designated to a eyeglass case so once I design what I want and get some supplies together I can work on it this weekend. I just found out that there is an AC Moore near me, well really 10 miles away, but I've never been to one and the lack of craft stores in my area is sad, really, just think I actually got excited about this discovery, sad very sad, LOL.

Hand Manipulated Weaving

I kept the center warp of the window treatment ( if we can call it that) which is 3" wide and have been experimenting with some hand manipulated weaving. I like the look of the fabric and the texture given it's sort a spongy and puffy. I was under the impression that I would have a balanced weave since both warp and weft are the same yarn, but on closer inspection I have noticed that this is a weft faced weave the warp is all but gone. So that was an interesting discovery for me. I also noticed in my weaving that the right side is nice and even and the left is not, so I need to work on keeping my tension even in throwing the weft and pulling through.

Meg is trying to put together a virtual exhibition of woven scarves. She has asked that I submit one, so this small piece will be the inspiration for the scarf with, of course some leno lace, which is one of my favorites at this moment.

I created a new group in yahoo a while back, RHLoomers and have discovered a lot of RH weavers, many new, some very experienced, but all excited about their weaving experiences, it has grown considerably in a short period of time and I hope that it will be a source of references, help and encouragement to the RH weavers.

Windows, afghans & UFO's

I cut off my weaving with much pain, but I could not get my warp to un-tighten itself. As I was in the process of doing this my realtor called, and had buyers that were coming to see the house. I was changing out my master bath, with new rugs, shower curtain and details, but I had forgotten about the window treatment, so in a pinch guess what made it into the bathroom?? Yeah I know it's short all around but in a pinch it worked!

I have gotten this far in my stash busting afghan, it's roughly 36" wide and I'm only on the fourth row, since this will be a Christmas present I'm not really pressed for time, this is what I take along to doctor's office visits, which lately seem to be one every week , since I've memorized the pick up and turns it's relatively an easy knit. I can't believe that I learned this only a few weeks ago, really neat stuff!! I also have learned that I'm definitely a earth tone yarn collector, no bright colors, harsh colorways, just natural tones.

I have currently four knitting UFO's which I'm not proud of owning that many, but I've been told that for knitters that is normal. My dilemma is if I weave, I don't knit and if I knit I don't weave. I'm seriously considering quitting work so I can stay home and do my thing, the trick is work pays for the supplies and then some LOL. Ahhh one can dream can't they?

Weaving Stand Still

I am at an impasse, I have one thread that is so tight while the rest are fine. I have unrolled some, re-rolled and I still have this issue. I'm so not happy with this warp, I should have just packed it away and not kept insisting on weaving it off. It's the left end thread, I'm tempted to cut it and add to it, but I know that can't be the answer. I quit trying to fix it last night at midnight, slept on it and still can't figure out what's up. I may just cut the whole thing off the loom and start something else fresh. I'm finding that when I warp the entire length of the loom the end are always a problem they are either too loose or too tight, even though I pay extra attention and care, because I know this has happened before. This is the second warp on the 12.5 dpi heddle that I make the same mistake, arrrrrghhhhhhhh!! I know I'm whining, but talk about having the wind sucked out of your sails. I've look through my books and none address this problem, so I have reason to believe that I'm the problem or that I did something wrong that I should have noticed. I don't know, I'll have to see what I do tonight with it.

On another happier note I have been inspired to try to make some purses, curiousweaver textiles, is a weaver in Australia and she has been making these coin purses that are just beautiful. I thought I would try to do the same and see how it went. I found www.mikkie.com and order some purse frames at a reasonable price. As I kept researching the web I came across www.u-handbag.com, I was further inspired by Lisa, who does the most amazing fabric purses and she has a bunch of tutorials, which is great for visual learners.

Maybe I can use the warp that I'm going to trash for purse fabric, although I really wanted my shawl.

Warping an Ashford RH

Since the ordeal of my last warping episode, I have been re-warping and undoing knots in yarn. Peg ask how do you warp a la Ashford, which is a direct warping method. I took a few pics for your visual enjoyment, with which, without I probably couldn't explain how I get this done.

You space the loom and the peg at the distance that you want you warp to be mine was at 87 inches, plus a foot or so for the back beam tie up and the front beam tie up. It help if you put some kind of weight on the loom so that is doesn't slide towards the peg as you warp. The book suggests you clamp the loom to a table, but I'm short a table and have the loom stand so, I improvise.

On the left is a close up of the back beam, you tie the initial yarn and wrap around the lead stick, mine is attached to the loom and can't be removed with out damaging the plastic anchors that attach it to the back beam.

The picture on the left is my warp going through the slots, when it's all said and done all my slots will have two warp threads running through them.



Then I take my yarn and put one through the heddle eye. Then I have one in the slot and one in the heddle, in the up position all the heddle eye threads are in the open shed, in the down position all the slots are in the open shed, this is done down the loom, the warped loom looks like the bottom picture.

Once I got my loom all warped and tighten the back beam, I'm finally ready to start weaving, the next picture is the shawl I'm working on with some leno lace started.

After all that weaving fun, I needed to relax, plus my eldest had been bothering me (umm asking politely) for a wash cloth, so while I watched the movie Martian Child, which was a really awesome family flick, I knitted this for him. Now he can wash behind his ears without a problem, hehe.. ;)

No Warping, Some Potential Buyers

I regret to tell you all that the warping of my loom has been put on pause. We have been trying to sell our home for about a year now, this is the second RE Agent and third listing. Yesterday my agent called and told me he has scheduled potential buyer every night this week from 7:30 - 9:00, arrghh!! We want to sell, we need to sell, not because we are in financial trouble, but because we have a plan to move out of state in about 5 years and to put that into place we need to get out of the house, the down side is that showing the house bites into my weaving time. So I ran around yesterday, putting away my yarn, warping peg and moving my loom into a corner of the dining room to try to hide it from plain view. My agent calls it a distraction, and I totally agreed, but in the way he meant it :)

So no weaving until Saturday, but since no one mentioned anything about my knitting, I do that while folks are poking their noses in my cabinets and closets. Although I must say I had one husband state to his wife that he'd buy the house if she could keep the closets as organized as I had them, to which she promptly replied, "only if you can keep the garage the way they have it so I can park my car and actually do laundry without having to trip over your garbage". Scary couple. The next made comments on how big our bed was, we have a king size bed, how much furniture fit in the house and how strange that my son's curtains were so dark. I thought well your not buying any of that, just the house, we'll clear everything out. People are a bit strange.


I finished my DD sweater which I hop too assemble it tonight, and worked some on the entrelac afghan. I'll have some photos for you tomorrow.

A Bit of This and A Bit of That

Thanks, for the comments on yesterday's question, I found your thoughts and answers interesting and creative. Now I don't feel so bad with my answer and I'm glad that creative minds have a quick wit. :)

I just got some goodies, because if you can believe this "ALL THE YARN I OWN IS PLANNED FOR A PROJECT"!! WHOA!! YAY!! Not that I am by any stretch a yarn collector, my inner organizer can't justify over buying until I use what I have, really it keeps me and my poor family in some kind of a controlled environment, plus clutter makes me itchy. (I'm sure it's some type of OCD) Since I can buy more yarn, I did (hehehe impishly wiggles the eyebrows). Look at this:

These are called Citrus blend they are 4 oz each = 1500 yds.

The bottom four are 3oz each mix lot = 272 yds/per





The top fourteen are 2oz each mix lot = 187 yds/per.





All are cotton chenille sport weight soft and airy really nice yarn, although I have heard all the horrors of weaving with chenille I'd like to take my chances and try it out myself. I have planned an afghan for the Citrus mix, since the interior of my house is in the green stage of it existence, we've been through the beige, yellow and blue stages so naturally green was next. If I encounter too much worming which seems to be the major compliant I can always knit the rest.

On the weaving front; after four tedious hours of undoing my latest fiasco (huh) attempt at weaving, we have so far only this,

I know not impressive, but I plan on finishing it tonight getting the rest of the warp on and rolling it ever so carefully on the back beam and for Peg I will take pics of the direct warping which I call ala Ashford style. This shawl has really tested my patience, the DH thinks I'm nuts, he's asked several times, "why don't you just start all over"?, he doesn't get that this is starting all over.

I have a question for you

I was at the doctor's office with my hubby, he's was sick last week and we needed to see a Gastroenterologist. While he was in the consultation room, I was in the waiting room, of course knitting. I had a few curious stares, but some comments as follows:

1. Oh that's so nice you entertain yourself while waiting, this from an older lady.

2. What are you making? This from a child that was attentively watching, I bet I could have taught, if the kid's mom didn't make the following comment.

3. You know you can buy a sweater really cheap at XYZ. The kid's mom, who was yapping into a cell phone and couldn't shut up long enough other than to tell me where I could buy what I was hand making.

4. I couldn't waste my time, if you can get it at XYZ. This from a 20 something, to which I had to answer.

I'm not really wasting my time, you see, I'm making a sweater for my daughter, not because I can purchase it, but because I simply can. You really can't buy this sweater at XYZ, because it's hand made and they don't sell anything that is hand made. I thought about the pattern, took the exact measurements for my daughter's body and selected a yarn that she will love. So you see, it takes some thought and preparation to make something hand made, that the person you made it for will feel special every time she puts it on. You really can't buy that. The room fell deafly silent, I was in shock of what came out of my mouth, but really felt it was the truth and simply stated, although I think it might have sounded kind of snide, but I don't know, no one made another comment after that. I've had the similar comments on the handwoven pieces also, mostly from my SIL's non are fiber addicted, or do any creative anything.

So my question to you is how do you answer someone when they ask; Why are you doing that, or why would you if you could buy it?? I'm interested to know if you have a different take on what we all know is one of a kind handmade item.

CLASS #101 - HOW NOT TO WARP YOUR LOOM

I have been neglecting my weaving loom and decided last night is was high time I put some warp on and get going, well, that's what I thought anyway.

I warp my loom using a peg and directly on to the loom, a la Ashford Style , so I started my usual way. I was using cabled crochet cotton and regular crochet cotton, for a shawl. Everything was going as planned and then it started getting weird, as I was winding up the back beam, the warp slid off my banner sheet on to the bare back beam then into the join the yarn was tangling up on the heddle before it was going through, you'd think I would have stop and reassessed at this venture, but no, not me. I managed to get it all on and I thought well I'll just wind forward and fix it. HA!! that was the understatement of the year!! Stupid me didn't use a seperator sheet for that and guess what happened next? Well needless to say I was beyond annoyed with myself, and for a person that can curse effectively in three different languages, if you include my high school French, well everyone took cover the DH went into the bedroom, the dog in the cage and my DD who had just come home from work never said a word. Think Ricky Ricardo to the tenth power, multiply by 1000 and then you can get a picture, not a pretty sight.

I decided to cut my losses, since the yarn is not expensive enough to worry about so, I started to chop it out, at the time I could have really taken the circular saw to it, but I love my loom so I cut, and cut and cut and cut, did I say I cut. After I sat for two minutes and laughed through the tears, I decided I need to take some pics . So I present to you the Yarn Disaster of 2008.

I could only salvage the cabled crochet yarn, so I have to start, shall we say "OVER".

Entrelac

TA-DA!! I took my class on Sunday and produced this. So it's not perfect but hey, I got the concept. The class was informative and I found out a few tips on how to accomplish some basic knitting techniques that I lacked. The LYS owner, was in a different mode while teaching and was not at all critical of my use of my weirdo knitting, met some other knitters that were really nice and like me not that accomplished so I felt comfortable and tried my best to follow along.

Since completing this scary swatch I cast on for my stash busting afghan. I inherited a bunch of (old) huh vintage yarn from a co-worker's mom that passed about two years ago. The colors are very different, the yarn is coarser than you find in today's market, but once you wash it, the stitches relax and the fabric softens. I'll post some of that later once I get some rows completed. I'm also almost finished with my DD's sweater, one sleeve to go, yeah , just in time for summer, oh well she can use it in the lab class she says you can chill a side of beef in there.

LYS Class and Baby Blanket

I'm coming out of my cold/flu and have been working on the baby blanket trying to finish it. I bought flannel material and have begun pinning it to the reverse side. As I'm doing this I realize that the darn thing is not straight nor even, the stitches took up so where the mitered squares are is 1/2" larger than the body. I thought about stretching it, but I just don't know I'll see how I do this weekend with it.



In other news, I signed up @ the snobby LYS store that got this post, for the Entrelac class on Sunday from 3 to 5 pm. I took my hubby's advice, he simply stated, "Don't keep them from letting you learn something you want to, it's only 2 hours and you can handle 2 hours". So he's right, I really do want to learn to do this technique, it's for my stash buster afghan, and besides I'm a tough cookie, I can handle it for that short time. I'll just weirdo knit, and drive everyone crazy, while I learn a new technique. So wish me luck, I'll try to be a good girl and keep my inner snarky under control, hehe.

Finished & Washed

I got out the heavy artillery, this is my sewing machine, it's a Brother, simple and easy to use. Then I got out my tomato pin cushion which has quilting pins, they are longer and thinner than regular pins and I really like them for sewing they stick out really far enough for me to pull them out right before I run over them. I pinned the mats with the hem stitching inward.

Set up my tension, this was a bit of trial and error, the cotton yarn doubled makes for a really thick fabric. I did two rows of straight stitching and cut off the excess warp threads for a neat edge. Then I noticed I'd made a mistake when I planned the mats. I should have given myself at least 14 weft shots of the white, this would have allowed me to fold the edge over once more and have everything tucked under. I made notes on this for the next mats.

This is what they looked like before the second fold over, after that my camera decided not to take anymore pictures, so I'll have to get them up tomorrow, after wash and dry, with final measurements.

Barely Made It!!

This picture is definitely a weaver's nightmare, I'm at the end, the very end of my warp and have 11 weft shots to go. At this point every warp thread is hand manipulated, because there is almost to way to tension it properly. Since I was so close, I needed to finish it.

Of course, not with out some fretting and slow as molasses picking, but the results were well worth it.

Here they are, before cutting them apart, now I have to hem and wash them. I have to say I really like the hem stitching it was really worth the time and effort it took to get it done, the edges are really neat and should easily sew up I also did the white header/ender to turn over. I will do a step by step for Leigh who did the best post on Hemming Hand- Woven Fabrics, which taught me a lot from the post and comments everyone gave.

The details are:

Before washing:

Size off loom: 15 1/2" x 23 1/2" I estimated they would be 16 x 24 so closed enough with the take up of 1/2"

Materials: Peaches and Cream 2 balls of 2 oz color Bubblegum weft, and White warp 1/4" of a 1# cone @ 112" measured warp.

Lost Studio, Found Inspiration

I also lost my studio,waaaahhhhh!! sniff sniff. My youngest step son move back in, so I've been downgraded to the seldom used dining room . Yes, I miss my room.

After all the feeling of loss and grief, I decided to try and turn it into a productive weekend, I organized my weaving journal and notes not a heavy task, since I haven't been weave long, but I noticed that on some items the notes are detailed other vague, some of my notes are in various notebooks, so I sat and printed pictures, wrote notes and details and I even wrote down some tips to remind myself how things work and how not to go down a path that didn't work. I'm not a neat freak by far, but I like to have my crafts organized, I always feel that I'm more productive in my thinking, creativity and vision of what I want, when I have what I need, where it should be. (my mom always said everything has a place and everything in its place, is the order of the universe, I use to think that was a load of crap, but you know, as always, true wisdom comes with age, now I truely listen when she sputters pearls of wisdom or should I say purls, hindsight is 20/20) Thank God my DH understands my need to create, because he's a neat freak, but not with my crafts that he leaves alone. The the garage is his domain, the rest of the house is mine :) love how that works, what's yours is yours and what's yours is mine LOL.Once I organized my work space I felt compelled to warp my loom after not working on it for 2 months, this felt really good and it eased my sense of loss.

I figured I wanted to try some lace patterns, I warp on for some place mats to play around with, since I can use them later I don't mind fiddling with them. I like they way they are turning out, I'm on the second mat with the first sequence of my pattern. I also hemstitched the edges, they look really neat and tidy, this is the first for both techniques and I'm really appreciating the process. I have already started thinking about doing the lace shawl, with the crochet cotton I was trying to knit in this post, since I love the colors and can't figure out what to do with the yarn I might as well try weaving something lacey and delicate. I downloaded this tutorial which is great, and it answered most if not all the questions that were in my mind.

Mitered Baby Blanket

This is the progress on the mitered baby blanket, I know I promised no endless photos of mitered squares, but I thought I would share with you what I've been up to. I like the colors and the design I came up with, what I don't like is the reverse side, can anyone say, sloppy and messy looking, ugh!! I think I'm going to sew a complimentary piece of material on the other side and keep all the mess between the fabrics, I'll have to think about how to accomplish that with out it looking like a big pillow case. Maybe with some quilt stitching which I've never done, but I guess I'll try.

Valentine's" Day Glitter Graphics

ONE SHAWL, TWO SHAWL, CREAM SHAWL, PINK, BROWN, BIEGEY/CREAM SHAWL

Okay, and with that title you have to figure that I have finished the cream shawl, I'm abstaining from taking a pic until I come back from vacation. I'd like to get a really nice creative shot, since the last pic really was atrocious.

Since I was needing a knitting project to take along and I have this wonderful, and very thin yarn in the stash. Which I have decided to turn into another shawl. With what I learned from the recent pattern, I am creating my own design, which I'm enjoying. I scanned this pic because I'm not having any luck with the camera. I'm using #5 needles (3.75mm) Susan Bates Silvalume. I like the needles nylon cable it's not as twirly as the bamboo needles I use, but the tips oh slippery as the dickens. Yes, they have made me curse twice but I'm getting the hang of it. I also love the colors really soft and feminine.

Update on Shawl

I'm in love with the knitting on this one, it's a really easy pattern and with it I learned to do K2, YO, K2, which the YO was the part I didn't know how to do and it creates the little eyelets, very cuteypie.

Since I'm knitting on it for about two hours a day I have 2 .5 more skiens to finish and I'll have it completed for my trip. I started with 5 skeins of this bulky yarn which weighed a pound so each skein was 3.20 oz. (math whiz that I am hehe). So far it's 29" long x 40" @ the hypotenuse with about 7 oz to go I'm also loving the fact that I don't need to fringe it, as I twisted fringe last year for what seemed to be an eternity LOL. Sorry about the crappy pic, but I left my camera at home and had to use the company issued construction camera (very scary piece of equipment).

So now my mind is working on the next knitting project I need to take with me that I can do for the long drive (14 hours). The baby blanket is too cumbersome for the car and I'm going to need something portable and of course from my stash. Maybe I'll start the stash buster afghan, now what stitch... that will take a bit of research, cause I'd like to learn somthing new, I wanted to do it in Entrelac, my elusive confusing stitch, maybe that will be a good time to learn it after all I do have 14 hrs to kill.

New Knitting

I know, I know, I should not start yet another project, what with two on needles, but the baby blanket was driving me nuts and I needed to take some drastic measures so I decided to do a simple shawl. The pattern is here if your interested and I have another link to share for free knitting patterns here, maybe some of you know about it, but for those who don't I hope you enjoy browsing, I spent two hours on there yesterday lol, but I digress (see my mind is not concentrating lately, but oh well)

In keeping with my stash busting, I'm using yarn that I bought at the Rag Shop before they went out of business, I posted about it here, it wasn't labled as anything, but I know it's acrylic (I'm not itching hehe) it's bulky I'd say #5 and soft as buuuudder I'm knitting with my 10.5 circs but I wish I knew who manufactures it because I would buy more, what a great surprise to work with, really nice yarn. I'd like to finish before I leave on my trip in two weeks and I think I can accomplish it. I have not abondoned the blanket I'm leaving it to do during my lunch breaks at work. Maybe this will free up some of my time to plan some weaving, it's been too long since I've woven anything and I really miss my loom.

I also uploaded my knitting bag pic, I received this as a Christmas present from one of my co-workers, he's such a doll. Inside was some wonderful hand creme, body wash, makeup and chocolates, but believe it or not what I loved the most was the bag, ever since I've use it as my knitting travel bag, everyone at work thinks I'm nuts, but it's so cute I can't resist, the reindeer just make me smile.

Weirdo Knitter

Last night I went to the LYS and sat in on a knit in. I would never generally go to the store because there is alot of animal fiber in there and of course my allergies go haywire, but I wanted to get a feel for the shop owner and instructor because I'd like to take an Entrelac class and I thought this was the best way to check out the atmosphere. What I found out is that I'm a weirdo knitter, I knit English style when I do a knt stitch and I throw the yarn so I was told and Continental when I purl and I don't even hold the yarn behind the project on the purl but in front and I do it backwards looping over and around insted of under and around. Trust me everyone was staring and commenting on this weirdo way I knit. I'm not really shy, but I don't like to be stared at, it's uncomfortable, add to this commentary and I was beet red and I started getting nervous which didn't help the knitting and being a newbie, this really rocked my confidence to a nano byte.

I explained that I am self taught with books, internet videos amazing blog knitters and some yahoo group help, I was met with open mouths and raised eyebrows. They tried to correct my hands, my holding of yarn and the position of my needles, after all this instruction, I couldn't knit not one stitch and I've been knitting really quick in weirdo, I'm confused, my knitting looks like everyone elses in the end so why is my method so appauling? I couldn't ask this bunch of snoberettes so.... needless to say I don't think I will learn Entrelac.... at least not in this shop and God only knows I have a very limited source of LYS, the next closest place is 20 miles, which translate in our traffic time to 45 mins to an hour commute after work, shall we say NOT HAPPENING.

So if anyone has an internet video, or book I can get, so that I can see how it's done and convert it in to weirdo, then please let me know I'll appreciate it.

On the baby blanket, I have finished the (torture) mitered squares and have begun to put them together, once I have one side attached to each other I plan to pick up the stitches and start striping. I got a stripe pattern from here which is a great help, I don't remember how I got to that webpage but I'm sure it was reading someone else's blog.

Master Weaver

I took this picture December 24, before we started our prep for "Noche Buena" which is Cuban for eating roast pork, rice with black beans, yucca with mojo, drinking mojitos, playing dominoes with very experienced champion style matches (very competitive), and celebrating Christmas Eve. While I was clearing the several potted plants under our mango tree, I looked up and spotted this





as I walked around it several times, I was awe stricken, by the complexity and simplicity of the use of space, not a missed warp, all of it even and perfect. I thought how amazing that such a small creature could do such a magnificent job of weaving instinctively.

20 SQUARES AND 12 TO GO!

Okay, so not really a mitered square baby ghan, after knitting endless squares or what seems to be endless squares, I'm not really liking the process, shall we say tedious....

But I have to finish the baby ghan. So what's an industrious girl to do, in my case, I have decided to knit the mitered squares for the two ends and the middle in stripes, I've worked it out in my minds eye and think it will be really cute, or at least I want it to be. This is the route I think I will take, visually I think it's interesting to mix up the squares and have the color everywhere, instead of the predictable same with same. What do you guys think? I also need some help putting these together any suggestions as to not have the thread yarn I use for stitching show through the other colors?

I can't say it enough, Thank God it's Friday!!!!

We have had a rough week, both my youngest kid's cars were at the mechanics, the dog has chewed her hind legs into bleeding stumps, and I have to finish getting a crown on my tooth today, whew!!

I was talking with DH yesterday and said to him "you know we've spent over $ 2,000.00 , we didn't even have fun and we haven't even reached the weekend yet". His look was classic, a bit of surprise (he hadn't calculated the costs), then annoyance (the emergency fund is running low) then, just laughter (because you just have to). You're probably thinking why the heck are they laughing about it, well no one in our family is sick, hurt or in the hospital. God has granted us life everyday, not that it would be a great day, but another day. Trials and tribulations are a part of life, they way you handle them, that's in it self is the true lesson.

So this is why we laugh:
